Frequently Asked Questions

Are you licensed counselors?
No, we are not licensed counselors. We are first responders and military personnel who are trained pastoral counselors, certified biblical counselors, and certified biblical mental health coaches.
Why are you not licensed counselors?
We believe that the state is not man's governing authority. Rather, God and His Holy Word is man's governing authority.
What does that mean?
The rules of man are ever changing. Since this is so, the authority of the state is also ever changing. It is our belief that this is not a recipe for success. We would argue that this model is what Jesus called "a house built on sand." It is model that merely addresses symptoms, that is, man's temporal needs. God, however, never changes nor does His Word. Thus, His model provides the firm foundation needed for a true and eternal cure. God's model is a house built on solid Rock (Matthew 7:24-27).
What makes you different?
Great question! We consider ourselves a bridge between the secular and the sacred. The 'secular' meaning licensed professionals and the 'sacred' meaning the church. Licensed professionals typically focus on physical issues while avoiding the spiritual ones. This is due to their governing authority. To us that means, treating symptoms without giving the cure. The church on the other hand tends to do the opposite, that is, focus solely on the spiritual issues while neglecting the physical ones. To us that means, giving the cure without treating symptoms. We at FIF understand that both are equally important, as well as emotional, logical, and relational issues. From that, we believe we address both symptoms and the cure! Further, one who attends church may be hesitant to go to the secular, whereas one who does not might be hesitant to go to the church. But all can feel welcomed and comfortable at FIF. Lastly, we are like you, first responders and military personnel.
Do you take insurance
No, we do not take insurance.
Why not take insurance?
We believe that insurance companies and the health care industry in general are not necessarily in the business of making people well. After all, permanently curing mental health issues is not as profitable as continually treating symptoms. Our desire on the other hand is to ultimately put ourselves out of work, we want everyone cured!
How much will this cost me?
We request a donation. The consideration for your donation should be based off of your income. A biblical rule-of- thumb is the tithe model, or 10%. For instance, if you are unemployed, donate nothing. If you make $1000 per month donate $100 per month, or $25 per weekly session. If you make $10,000 per month donate $1000 per month or $100 per weekly session. Superseding this rule is 2 Corinthians 9:7, "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."  That mentioned, give what is on your heart. Lastly, our desire is to provide our service free of charge. Unfortunately, we have discovered that offering a free service does not bode well for client commitment.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, you are making a donation to a 501c3 religious exempt organization.
What if I cannot afford to make a donation?
If you are 100% committed, we got your six! No donation necessary. We believe that once you have completed your sessions you will find a way to afford a donation for someone else's cure!
What exactly does my donation go towards?
Running a non-profit organization does have its expenses; thus, your donation goes to our logistical needs. And perhaps more importantly, your donation goes towards a stipend for your coach. After all, "The worker deserves his wages (1 Timothy 5:17)."
What if I desire to donate but do not want your service?
We would certainly appreciate your generosity! Your donation will go to growing our coach team allowing us to assist more first responders and military personnel.
